The Kurdish Lawyers Union held its founding conference in the city of Bonn, Germany, on June 28, 2025, with the attendance of a distinguished group of legal, social, and political figures from Kurdistan and Europe, as well as representatives of civil society organizations, in addition to members of the Union.
The conference opened with the Kurdish national anthem, followed by a moment of silence in tribute to the souls of the martyrs, and a special dedication to the memory of the martyred lawyer Lokman Hannan.
The Union’s general supervisor then delivered a welcoming address, expressing gratitude for the attendees’ presence and support of this significant founding event.
After that, two members of the Union presented an introductory overview of the Kurdish and German, addressing the stages of establishing the Union, its objectives, structure, achievements to date, and its future aspirations.
The first session included speeches by representatives of the conference guests, who expressed their appreciation for the documented efforts to establish the Union, their support, and willingness to cooperate with it. They also conveyed a positive image of the guests’ situations despite their different circumstances, highlighting their positions and shared aspirations.
Following a lunch break, the conference resumed with closed internal working sessions and media segments. The guests departed, and the conference moved to discuss its internal affairs. Committee representatives presented transparent reports on their work progress, a review of the successes achieved, and the challenges and obstacles they faced. Proposed solutions and consultations on the presented issues were also discussed.
In the final part of the conference, several proposed amendments to the basic bylaw were deliberated by some members, aiming to improve operational mechanisms and enhance the Union’s performance. The proposals were then voted on in accordance with the adopted regulations.
Before the conclusion of the conference, an election process was conducted to select a new general supervisor for the Union. The results led to the election of Mr. Mohieddin Noman as the general supervisor of the Kurdish Lawyers Union.
The members of the Union then collectively took the founding oath, marking the beginning of a new phase of institutional work in service of justice issues and the rights of the Kurdish people.
