Kurdish lawyers union
The Kurdistan Lawyers Union is an independent, non-governmental Kurdish legal entity established with the aim of defending the rights of the Kurdish people, seeking the restoration of their usurped rights, and obtaining international recognition of those rights. It also works to promote the values of justice, human rights, and fundamental freedoms in the Kurdistan regions and at the international level.
The Union is an official entity recognized as a legal person by the relevant authorities in Germany. Its headquarters are located in the city of Bonn, and it plans to open branches in the following countries: the United States of America, the United Kingdom, Sweden, Denmark, Greece, Switzerland, Belgium, and the Netherlands, with the possibility of establishing additional branches in diaspora countries as needed.
The Union focuses on legal matters and takes all necessary measures to defend and protect the rights of the Kurdish people internationally, providing the required legal representation in pursuit of its objectives.
In addition to the above, the Union works on documenting violations, providing legal support to victims and affected individuals, and promoting awareness of legal issues, human rights, and fundamental freedoms.

Born in 1970 in the Afrin region. I graduated from the Faculty of Law at the University of Aleppo in 1998 and began practicing law as an accredited attorney in 2000 until 2011 with the Aleppo Bar Association branch. Since 2011, I have been residing in the United Kingdom and hold British citizenship. I continued my studies in British law, obtained a Master’s degree, and completed my professional legal training. I am officially registered with the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) in England and Wales, and since 2016 I have been working as a qualified solicitor at a law firm in the city of Birmingham, where I maintain my registered legal office with the UK Bar Association. I have also completed notarial studies and am currently undergoing the registration process as a Public Notary in the United Kingdom. In addition, I have worked with several humanitarian organizations concerned with assisting refugees and defending their rights in the UK, driven by my belief in a lawyer’s duty to serve justice and uphold human dignity.

Born in the city of Aleppo in 1965. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from the University of Aleppo (1991) and is registered with the Raqqa Bar Association, where he practiced law from 1994 until 2014. He is also a registered member of the Arab Chamber for Conciliation and Arbitration. He has been residing in Germany since 2015, where he has worked in various fields, including as a translation assistant with the AWO organization, as well as with several local churches and the cultural center. He is also engaged in a number of artistic activities in the fields of painting and music. He has held two art exhibitions in the city of Stutthagen, Bruchhof, under the title “Thank You Germany,” and another at Eccliserkirche. He joined the Kurdish Lawyers Group in the diaspora on February 4, 2024, and, together with a distinguished group of colleagues, participated in founding the Kurdistan Lawyers Union in the diaspora. He is honored to be one of the founding members and currently serves as the Administrative Officer in the Audit and Accountability Committee within the Union’s structure. We are currently preparing to hold the first founding conference of the Kurdistan Lawyers Union, which will take place in the German city of Bonn on June 28–29, 202_, as a foundational step toward establishing an institutional legal framework that serves the causes of our people and strengthens our professional presence in diaspora countries.

On January 31, 2024, he took the initiative to establish the “Kurdish Lawyers Group,” which later formed the initial nucleus for the founding of the “Kurdistan Lawyers Union in the diaspora.” He is honored to be one of the founding members and currently serves as Deputy General Supervisor, in addition to being a member of the Higher Administrative Board and the Monitoring, Documentation, and Archiving Committee within the Union. He is also one of the candidates for the position of General Supervisor at the first founding conference of the Kurdistan Lawyers Union, scheduled to be held in the German city of Bonn on June 28, 2025.

He has been residing in Germany since 2014, working in the field of commerce. He joined the Kurdish Lawyers Group in the diaspora on February 1, 2024, as part of a collective initiative by a number of Kurdish lawyers living in diaspora countries, aimed at establishing an independent professional entity to represent our ambitions in serving the causes of our people within a legal and institutional framework. He is honored to be one of the founding members and currently serves as a member of the Higher Administrative Board, in addition to his administrative responsibilities in the Finance and Human Resources Committee within the Union.

Lawyer Rashid Shaaban Born in the city of Afrin in 1965. I practiced law from 1994 until 2012 and was during that period registered with the Aleppo Bar Association branch. On February 1, 2024, I joined the Kurdish Lawyers Group, which formed the founding nucleus of the Kurdistan Lawyers Union, and I am honored to serve as a member of the Audit and Accountability Committee within the Union. I have been residing in Germany since 2020.

She is honored to serve today as a member of the Higher Administrative Board of the Union, in addition to her role as Administrative Officer of the Monitoring, Documentation, and Archiving Committee. Her aspiration is to raise legal awareness among the Kurdish people and defend their legitimate rights in international forums and courts.

During its years of activity, the center completed numerous specialized legal studies and reports, in addition to documenting human rights violations—particularly crimes committed by Turkey and its affiliated armed factions in the occupied Kurdish regions, especially Afrin. He and his colleagues submitted extensive documentation reports on these issues to relevant authorities, foremost among them the International Commission of Inquiry on Syria. He has also participated in numerous activities, events, and workshops related to legal and Kurdish affairs in Geneva, Brussels, and other cities.
